They ‘…aim to provide an online information service for young people, parents and professionals seeking guidance on bullying. Please explore our site, we hope you find it useful and informative.’

AIMS:

As part of our on-going work in developing the children’s Personal, social, health and economic education, we look at building their relationships with each other in their class, key stage, the whole school and other people they are connected with. A focus on bullying forms a regular part of this teaching, culminating in Anti-Bullying Week which usually occurs during November of each year.

We teach the children to think about and use the word STOP to help them to recognise what bullying is and also what to do if bullying is going on. So,

When children use the word Bullying to describe a situation, we get them to think about STOP; to apply it to what they are describing and think whether what has gone on is in fact bullying.

If it is not, then we help them to firstly see the situation for what it is and then to resolve the situation.

If it is bullying, we will follow it up appropriately. Each situation is different and may call for a slightly different response. At St. Mary’s we take incidents of bullying very seriously and will work with all of those involved to come up with a solution.

In recognition of our work in this area, we have been awarded the ‘Beyond Bullying Silver Award‘ by the Leicestershire Anti-Bullying Team. The Certificate can be seen in the entrance space at the school.

The Anti Bullying Alliance have three main objectives. They are:

  • To raise the profile of bullying and the effect it has on the lives of children and young people
  • To create a climate in which everyone agrees that bullying is unacceptable
  • To make sure that teachers, youth practitioners, parents, carers, children and young people have the skills and knowledge to address bullying effectively

The website is a confidential service that encourages those in need to seek help and to connect individuals with qualified counsellors in the UK.
